Southern Democrats committed to overturning Radical Reconstruction and restoring white political control, who succeeded across the South by 1877.

A term used for southern whites committed to rolling back the gains of Reconstruction. They represented the Democratic Party in the South and worked to end what they called "negro misrule," succeeding in the "redemption" of every former Confederate state by 1877.
